The computers rate above average according to CNET reviews. Many people choose a laptop for convenience, while others choose them as a simple all-in-one replacement for their desktop computers. However, the all-in-one functionality of a laptop can also make them more difficult to repair if something goes wrong. Having a professional replace the HP Pavilion DV3-2000 Keyboard can be costly. Fortunately, it's not difficult to replace the HP Pavilion DV3-2000 Keyboard yourself.

Turn the computer completely off and set up the anti-static pad and wrist strap. Remove the power adapter and battery from the computer. Also remove any other cables and devices that are plugged into the laptop.

Flip the laptop over so that you are looking at the bottom of the computer. Rotate the computer so that the back is closest to you. In the center of the laptop, find a rectangular cover with two screws on one end. Remove the two screws and the cover from the laptop.

Unscrew the screw on the left and right side of the laptop. These are located on the bottom of the laptop on the side closest to the hinge. Also remove the three small, black screws set in a triangle where the battery used to be located.

Turn the laptop over and open the screen to the furthest point it will go. On the hinge of the laptop there are two pieces that extend from the switch cover to the display hinge. Stick the flat-head screwdriver under each piece. Push down on the handle so that it pushes up on the hinge cover. This releases the switch cover from the computer. Remove the switch cover.

Close the display and turn the computer over. Set the computer so that the back is closest to you. In the memory module compartment, remove the screw on the right side about 2 inches up from side closest to you. Also, remove the screw located in the center of the battery compartment--on the side further away. When done, flip the computer over.

Open the display to the furthest point possible. Lift up on the keyboard from the edge closest to the display until you are able to remove the LED board connector from the system board. To do this, release the connector the plug is in and disconnect the cable. Bend the board forward so the face is resting where the touchpad is located. Disconnect the keyboard cable by releasing the connector and removing the cable from the system board.

Place the keyboard assembly in front of you so that the LED board is closest to you. Remove the screws on the edge closest to you to release the keyboard. Replace the keyboard with the new one and reverse the process to install it.
