How to Fix a Keyboard on a Asus K40

If you are working with a Asus K40 laptop it is important to keep the keyboard in good shape. The keyboards on laptops are prone to all sorts of problems, from food crumbs stuck under the keys to frequently used keys beginning to stick. In oder to keep your Asus K40 Keyboard working smoothly it is important to clean and service it on a regular basis.

Turn the computer off and remove the AC power cord. Turn the laptop upside down and push the battery release lever to loosen the battery. Pull the battery out of the case and set it aside.

Use a can of compressed air to loosen any dirt or crumbs that may be lodged under and around the keys. Before you spray the air into the keyboard do a test spray to make sure no moisture is coming out. Moisture could damage the electronic components under the keyboard.

Turn the Asus K40 Keyboard upside down and carefully shake the unit to remove any crumbs or pieces of dirt that may be lodged under the keys. Dirt under the keys is one of the most common problems with laptop keyboards, so it is a good idea to clean the keyboard on a regular basis.

Turn the laptop over and remove the retaining screws. Carefully lift up the cover,locate the keyboard cable and lift the keyboard free of the case. Examine each of the keys by pushing on it. If a key does not come back up quickly, check underneath that key for any accumulated dirt or debris.

Replace any keys that are worn out. Contact Asus to order replacement keys for your keyboard, or to purchase a whole new keyboard.
